When I started Fringe Scarves in 2018, The Fiesta scarf was one of my very first designs. Originally, the only colors available were black, turquoise, and yellow. As it grew in popularity, we added the hot pink and neon green fiestas which are perfect for summer! As our line of wild rags continues to grow, The Fiesta scarves continue to be one of the most popular. This is how the design came to be.
I found imagery of a hand embroidered Mexican floral design and immediately thought, “This has to be incorporated into a scarf.” I love Mexican inspired design. My house is full of those elements. I love the bright colors and contrasting embroidery elements! This isn't a look I grew up with, but I absolutely love the celebratory look and feel of it. I love adding a lot of color to a standard outfit, brightening up your look with a statement piece like a Fringe Scarf. The Fiesta line does just that!
When I design scarves, I really think about wearability. The design might be beautiful stretched out like a canvas, but it has to be equally as beautiful and interesting when it’s tied around your neck. I like to add a focal design element in the middle so, when folded, there is a focal point. For the fiesta, the focal point is a bright southwestern Aztec detail. The geometric shape brings an edginess to the dainty embroidery flowers featured on the rest of the scarf.
Most of the design that is shown when wearing a wildrag is at the edges and corners. I like to bring key design elements to the edges and toward the corners. Each corner has the signature Mexican floral pattern that is present throughout the rest of the scarf. Like the focal point in the center, I’ve added neon Aztec details to the border to integrate with the southwest style I love so much.
A Vintage Flare
I love worn an vintage looks. So I do a lot of textured layers on my designs. I like to have a three dimensional tea stains on things, it gives so much flavor. It plays into the history that inspires the designs. The floral elements of The Fiesta hold the details of the embroidery that inspired it.
