5 Tips for Choosing a Wild Rag
I remember the first time I shopped for a wild rag. I’d a decent collection already, given to me as a hand me down or as a gift. But, when I tried shopping for one myself, I was overwhelmed! There are so many designs and fabrics, and sizes, and prices! My head was spinning!
Shopping for a wild rag does not have to make your head spin. With these five tips, you are sure to select your next silk scarf that will remain in your wardrobe for years to come.
1. Purpose First
Wild rags have many purposes, from shielding from the summer heat to providing warmth in the winter. Think about how you plan to wear your wild rag when doing your shopping. Do you need a shorty or long tall? cotton to keep cool or 14mm silk like the Presley – Paisley for extra warmth?
2. Invest in Quality
A wild rag is a piece that can be passed down for generations if taken care of properly. Choose scarves made from quality silk and a weight that works for your weather.
All of our Fringe Scarves are made from a high-quality silk fabric with a high end finished edge to prevent fraying. Each product description will note what type of silk that scarf is made of. Most of our scarves are made out of satin silk or twill. Satin silk is shinier with a smoother feel while twill has a slightly more matte finish and a slight tooth or texture to it (perfect for a Spanish tie).
Denim Pawn is made out of a Charmeuse silk, which is lighter in weight and very flowy (we love it because it never wrinkles).
3. Make it Versatile
If you are shopping for your first wild rag, choose one that can go with as many outfits as possible. We recommend a neutral design like Western Yoke or Baby Concho Bone or a colorful design that can pull in many colors like the Fiesta line.
4. Show Off Your Personality
“There are some beautiful paisleys and solids on the marketing but I wanted a scarf with a story” – Jodi Hendrickson, the woman behind Fringe Scarves
We've designed scarves that allow you to showcase who you are while doing what you love. If you love turquoise, check out this scarf guide. If all black is your style, we have you covered. Cactus lover? This guide is for you.
